It's a 1993 600 Diversion with 40k on the clock.
Been stood for 6 months on my drive (covered), now won't start.
I've taken out plugs and cleaned, it's got fuel, I've tried it with
choke in/out, fuel tap up/down/sideways all combinations. I'm not too
technically minded, but it was running great before.
Battery ok and been charged.
Any ideas please, I want to sell.
Thanks in advance. >> Stay informed about: Help please - Yam 600 Divvy won't start........... |

you have to clean the carbs. the gas has turned tovarnish
and the jets are clogged. you can do it yourself or get
fucked by a dealer.
anyone slightly tech savy cab do it in an hour or less.
get a service maual and save big.
the gas today has water, alcohol and crap in it. it turns to
shit very quickly.
if you live in socal, i'll do it for $50. >> Stay informed about: Help please - Yam 600 Divvy won't start........... |

Like hell they can.
It depends how badly the carbs are varnished up. If all the little
galleries etc are clogged, it can be an utter, utter bitch of a job and
it's frequently easier to throw away the carbs and source another set.
Anyone who reckons they can completely sort out a set of *badly* clogged
four-cylinder carbs in an hour or less is talking bullshit IMHO.

my mistake, i thought it was a twin. quads can take much
longer, but i've never had to throw out carbs. >> Stay informed about: Help please - Yam 600 Divvy won't start........... |

Ah, twins are *a lot* easier.
I had to throw away a set from a Honda CB500T a couple of years ago - no
matter *what* I did to them it didn't run right.
I cleaned out jets, reset pilot screws, played with needle settings,
swapped over floats, jets, needles, jets with a dead set of carbs I had,
swapped over throttle slides, you name it.
Replacement set of carbs froma guaranteed working engine - and it went
perfectly.

The way to clean a varnished up carb is to get a carb soak used by
professional mechanics. Dissasemble carb completely and remove all
fiber, rubber, plastic or composite parts, gaskets, O-ring seals etc.
(the soak will dissolve them. Soak all of the metal parts of the carb
overnight and blow out with a high pressure air hose, especially the
small passageways. Wash parts off with water first to neutralize the
soak, it's caustic, and will burn you. I cannot say where you may
purchase this stuff in small lots, but you might try a NAPA autoparts
store. I believe this stuff is called "Kleenacarb". I used it on a
Honda 150 that wouldn't run many years ago and it fixed the problem.
